KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Ouachita Baptist University’s Francisco Oliveira has been named the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association/Great American Conference Men’s Tennis South Division Player of the Week after leading the Tigers to a pair of wins over ranked teams to open the spring season.

Oliveira and the Tigers started the 2022 spring season this past weekend at home with indoor wins over No. 11 Delta State (7-0) and No. 19 Southwest Baptist (6-1).

The senior from Porto, Portugal went undefeated throughout the weekend in doubles and singles.

On Friday in the win over DSU, he and teammate Santiago Kearney won 6-3 in first position doubles. Later that night, Oliveira fell behind in first position singles, but came back to get the win by final scores of 2-6, 6-2, and 6-4.

The next night in the win over SBU, Oliveira and Kearney won 6-2 in first position doubles. Oliveira then won two straight in singles by set scores of 6-4 and 6-2.

This is the third conference player of the week honor for Oliveira in his career. He is currently ranked No. 17 in the nation in singles. He and Kearney rank No. 8 in doubles.
