Charges filed in Arkadelphia murder

An Arkadelphia man has been formally charged in connection with the November shooting death of a man who succumbed to a gunshot wound and dropped off at the local hospital emergency room.

Turner

Court records released this week indicate that 34-year-old Patrick Turner was responsible for the death of Juan Malone, who was dropped off on Nov. 17 at the Baptist Health Medical Center-Arkadelphia emergency room with a gunshot wound from which he died.

Prosecutors this week charged Turner with first-degree murder, aggravated robbery and possession of a firearm by a certain person.

An affidavit filed by investigators notes that police interviewed a third party the day following Malone’s death and learned that Malone had been shot at Pine Court Apartments during a drug transaction. Turner was identified as the suspect in a police lineup.

The affidavit indicates that there was a “struggle” between Turner and Malone during the transaction when the latter was shot with a handgun. Turner has previous felony convictions, making it illegal for him to carry a firearm.

He remains in custody at the Clark County Detention Center.
