UPDATE: Arkansas State Police have identified a couple killed in a weekend crash in Clark County.
Robert Caleb McCollett, 28, and Andrea Brown, 23, died in a fiery crash Saturday, Oct. 9, at 12:59 a.m.
According to a fatal crash summary, McCollett was driving a 2017 Dodge Charger southbound on Mt. Zion Road when, “for an unknown reason”, traveled off the right side of the road and into the ditch. The vehicle hit an embankment before striking a tree. The vehicle caught fire when it came to a rest. Both McCollett and Brown were pronounced dead at the scene.
Their bodies are being held at Welch Funeral Home in Arkadelphia.
Lt. Robbie Plyler of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office investigated the accident, noting the road conditions were dry and weather was clear.
ORIGINAL POST: Two local people were killed early Saturday in a car crash that occurred in rural Clark County.
The names are not yet being released. What is known is that DeGray and Arkadelphia firefighters were summoned shortly after midnight Saturday, Oct. 9, to a curve on Mt. Zion Road, located southwest of Arkadelphia. Dispatchers advised that there had been a one-vehicle accident, and that the car was fully engulfed.
At 9 a.m. Saturday, Clark County Sheriff Jason Watson had just left the scene. Watson told The Arkadelphian: “The only thing I can release is we were notified of a one-vehicle accident on Mt. Zion Road and that the car was fully engulfed. Officers and fire personnel responded. Two local individuals were killed in the accident. Names and more information will be released when available.”
