US Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) will not headline tonight’s Clark County Republican Party Lincoln Day Dinner, but the annual program is still on go with other featured speakers, the local GOP party announced.
With more than 500 tickets sold, the program instead will feature both Arkansas gubernatorial candidates Sarah Sanders and Leslie Rutledge. The two will appear on the same stage for the first time during this campaign cycle as headline speakers.
Also in attendance will be US Senatorial candidates John Boozman (incumbent), Jake Bequette and Jan Morgan, in addition to several other statewide candidates and officials.
Eddie Arnold, chair of the Clark County Republican Party, said he was saddened that Kennedy was unable to make it but understands his circumstances.
“Unfortunately, due to the devastating damage from Level 4 Hurricane Ida in south Louisiana, Sen. Kennedy will be unable to attend,” Arnold said. “He continues to be without power and the situation is dire for millions of residents in that area.
“Our county committee and he regret this, but it is due to circumstances beyond his or anyone’s control.”
The dinner and program begin at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Henderson State University Garrison Center.
