Arkadelphia sex offender denied shorter prison term

Roderick Cooks

An Arkadelphia pedophile is not getting any time shaved from his prison sentence.

Roderick Cooks, 45, is serving a 30-year sentence in the Arkansas Department of Corrections for numerous convictions from charges filed in 2022.

He was sentenced to prison in August 2023 for failing to register and 10 counts of possession of child pornography, as the Level 2 offender had failed to report he had a new phone and number. A court-ordered search of the phone revealed links to pornographic websites showing prepubescent girls.

Cooks will be eligible for parole in 2029, according to online prison records.

Cooks recently requested commutation of his sentence with the Arkansas Post-Prison Transfer Board. A commutation is a reduction in a court-imposed sentence; it may mean either a lesser term of imprisonment or a reduction of the sentence to time served.

The board in April 2024 found Cooks’ request to be Without Merit. A “Without Merit” recommendation is one in which the board does not approve of the inmate or parolee’s request. The governor may accept or reject the board’s recommendation.
