A South Arkansas man has been arrested in connection with a 2017 homicide in Ouachita County.
The Ouachita County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday, Oct. 16, that Phillip McDaniel was arrested that morning following an investigation into Bernice Nelson’s murder in 2017.
Nelson’s body was found in her Bearden home five days before Christmas 2017. The state Medical Examiner’s Office determined she had suffered multiple stab wounds. Nelson was 73.
McDaniel has been booked on charges of first-degree murder and is in custody at the Ouachita County Detention Center.
Friday’s announcement stems from a joint effort by investigators of OCSO and Arkansas State Police.
The investigation is ongoing. Additional information regarding the arrest, charges and court proceedings would be released as it becomes available and is permitted by law, the agency said.
