Chilly weekend coming

The summer-like temperatures of late will come to a halt this weekend thanks to a cold front. Lows will be in the 30s.

Following a cold front on Friday, the coldest temperatures of autumn thus far will be seen over much of Arkansas this weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Little Rock.

While the high temperature in the Arkadelphia area will top out in the low 90s, Friday and Saturday’s daytime high will be more pleasant, in the upper 60s. Friday night’s low is 42, followed by an even chillier 37 on Saturday night.

Northern portions of the state could see near-frost conditions on Sunday morning.

While it may feel like bonfire weather, it’s still far too dry to burn, and counties throughout the southern half of the state remain under burn bans that make outdoor burning a misdemeanor offense.

Friday will be particularly dangerous for the southeastern third of the state as the cold front will promote strong north to northwest winds of 15-20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph through the afternoon hours. Very dry fuels combined with relative humidity dipping below 40% will promote an elevated fire weather concern.

Warmer days will return early next week, with highs in the low- to mid-80s and lows in the 40s.
