Clark County jobless rate down to 3.6%

Clark County’s unemployment rate for April 2026, not seasonally adjusted, was at 3.6%, according to a preliminary county-by-county report released this week by the Arkansas Division of Workforce Services.

According to the report, Clark County had a labor force of 9,893 persons with 9,539 employed and 354 unemployed. The unemployment rate fell six-tenths of a percentage point from the March report of 4.2%. Since the last report, the labor force decreased by 71 persons from 9,964. Tied at 3.6%, Clark and Pike counties shared the lowest unemployment rate among the counties sampled in the report.

For the same period in 2025, Clark County reported 3.5% of its 9,738-person labor force were without jobs.

Arkansas counties with the lowest unemployment rate continue to be in the far northwestern corner of the state: Benton (Springdale), Washington (Fayetteville) and Madison (Huntsville) all reported a 2.7% jobless rate. On the southwestern edge of the state, Sevier County (De Queen) reported a jobless rate of 2.8%.

On the higher end of the spectrum, the Delta counties of Phillips (Helena-West Helena), Desha (Arkansas City), and Chicot (Lake Village) reported an average unemployment rate of 6.4% for the month of April.

Statewide, Arkansas’ seasonally adjusted jobless rate was at 4.3% in April, no change from the previous month. There were 1.45 million available workers in Arkansas. Across the U.S., 4.3% of the nation’s 170 million available workers were without jobs.

The unemployment rate for these South Arkansas counties surveyed from March to April are listed with their county seat in parentheses: i.e., Clark County (Arkadelphia):

Dallas County (Fordyce) reported 4.1% of its 2,792 available workers were without jobs, compared to 4.6% in March.

Hot Spring County (Malvern) reported 3.8% of its 13,280 available workers were without jobs, compared to 4.6% in March.

Montgomery County (Mt. Ida) reported 4.4% of its 3,154 available workers were without jobs, compared to 5.4% in March.

Pike County (Murfreesboro) reported 3.6% of its 4,215 available workers were without jobs, compared to 4.4% in March.

Nevada County (Prescott) reported 5.1% of its 2,662 available workers were without jobs, compared to 6% in March.

Ouachita County (Camden) reported 4.1% of its 9,158 available workers were without jobs, compared to 4.9% in March.
