Dennis Toland

Dennis Ray Toland, 74, of Gurdon, Arkansas was called home on March 22, 2026. He was born in Phoenix, Arizona on February 29, 1952. Being a leap year baby gave him plenty of material for the good-natured humor he was known for.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Juanita Toland.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Toland and children: Michael Toland, Leah Toland, Heather (Paul) Croft, Katelan (Ryan) Hawthorne, and two granddaughters, Breanna and Brooke Croft. He is survived by his sister, Lita Paulson.

Dennis went back to school later in life and earned a degree in computer aided drafting, which he used in his factory work. He was a jack of all trades, having the skills to build or repair almost anything. He moved to Arkansas in 1979 and deconstructed a historic home with his dad and uncle. He then used those materials to construct his own home; the house that built his children’s lives. Dennis was also a talented musician and songwriter. He best expressed his deepest thoughts and emotions through music. He was a member of the worship team at New Life Church.

However, his greatest accomplishments were reflected in his character. He made sure to tell his wife daily that he loved and appreciated her. He loved his children deeply, as well, and worked hard all of his life to provide for their physical needs and character development. He was so proud of each one of them. He was a selfless man, always putting the needs of others above his own. He had a gift of being able to recognize needs in others and always stepped in to try to meet those needs, even if it was just offering encouragement or affirmation.

Dennis had a deep love of animals. He tried to save many injured animals including an orphaned fawn, a hawk, and a hummingbird. He showered his pets with love and attention. He was somewhat of an animal whisperer.  Dennis loved being outdoors in the countryside. He often marveled at the grandeur of God’s creation. He was like one of the oak trees in his backyard, as he was grounded in his beliefs and could not be swayed off course. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith,” 2 Timothy 4:7.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, March 30, 2026, at New Life Church with Pastor Martin Jones officiating.
