John McMillan Hobgood, 84, of Arkadelphia died March 21 at BHMC in Little Rock. He was born July 6, 1941 in Little Rock, son of the late James C. and Ernestine McMillan Hobgood.
He was a 1959 graduate of Arkadelphia High School and a 1963 graduate of Ouachita Baptist University where he was a member of the tennis team and Rho Sigma social club.
A retired cattle rancher and farmer, John co-owned and operated the Garden Gate nursery in Arkadelphia for many years. His family was selected as Clark County Farm Family of the Year in 1974. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a life-long member of First Presbyterian Church in Arkadelphia where he served several terms as an elder, and an avid tennis player.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Mae Thomas Hobgood, and a sister, Joan Clinton.
Survivors include: A son, John McMillan “Mac” Hobgood Jr. of Conway; a daughter, Mary Hobgood (Darren Baker) of Okolona; two grandchildren, Seth Willmon (Abby) and Lizzie Willmon; and a sister, Jamie Ward (David) of Okolona.
A graveside service in Rose Hill Cemetery at 10 a.m. will precede a memorial service at First Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. The family will greet friends following the service.
Honorary pallbearers are Mickey Guice, Warfield Teague, Winston Fulmer, Larry Duncan, Ralph Williams and Ed McCorkle.
