Army veteran Bryan Norris and state Sen. Kim Hammer are advancing to a runoff later this month for the Republican nomination for secretary of state.
The two were the top two finishers in the three-person Republican primary Tuesday for secretary of state. Miller County Judge Cathy Hardin Harrison also ran for the nomination.
Norris and Hammer will advance to the runoff since none of the three candidates won the majority needed to win the nomination outright.
Whoever wins the March 31 runoff will face Democrat Kelly Grappe in the November election.
Both have said they want to focus on election security and improving the state’s low turnout in their bids to be the state’s top election official. Whoever wins the fall election will succeed Secretary of State Cole Jester, who won the Republican nomination for land commissioner Tuesday night.
Jester was unable to run for secretary of state since he was appointed to the post by Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
