Clark County inmates held in the Arkansas prison system in March 2026

As of March 4, 2026, there were 338 people listed as Clark County inmates by the Arkansas Department of Corrections website.

There were 2 fewer inmates since last month’s report. The inmates are distributed among several institutions throughout the state.

There are 22 Clark County inmates serving a life sentence or life without parole, and one Garland County inmate on death row who served probation in Clark County in the 1980s.

The total includes 311 men and 27 women. There are 177 black inmates, 155 white inmates and six of other races.

The following Clark County inmates have a parole- or transfer-eligible date in March 2026, although there are several factors that could affect any individual release for months or years.

Chauncey Charles, 46, is serving a 20-year sentence at the Wrightsville Unit. Charles was convicted in 2024 in Clark County on charges of aggravated assault (probation revocation; habitual offender), as well as in Pike County for charges of fleeing. His current sentence history also includes 2019 and 2010 convictions in Clark County for charges of fleeing and delivery of controlled substances, respectively. 

John L. Clifton, 38, is serving 6 years at the North Central Unit in Calico Rock. Clifton was convicted in March 2025 in Grant County on charges of theft of property (habitual offender). Clifton served probation in Clark County for a 2022 conviction of fleeing and use of another’s property to facilitate a crime.

Christopher Dean Harnar, 33, is serving a 20-year sentence at Varner Supermax. Harnar was convicted in 2019 in Garland County on charges of manslaughter, possession of a firearm by a certain person, and aggravated assault. His current sentence history also includes a 2019 Clark County conviction for theft by receiving (probation revocation).

Debbie Sherwood, 60, is serving 10 years at the Women’s Health Unit. Sherwood was convicted in 2024 in Hot Spring County on charges of negligent homicide and possession of a controlled substance. There are no online court records available for the 2023 case. Sherwood’s current sentence history also includes a Clark County conviction in 2023 for possession of a controlled substance.
