Roland “Wildman” Hughes

Roland Glen “Wildman” Hughes, age 71, of Gurdon, passed from this life on Monday, February 23, 2026, at CHI Extended Care Medical Center in Hot Springs.  He was born January 8, 1955, in Little Rock, the son of the late Kenneth and Thomaseen Carlton Hughes.  

Wildman was a 1974 graduate of Gurdon High School and an avid Go-Devil fan.  He was a retired logger and timber man.  Wildman was a member of First Baptist Church of Gurdon.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and football in his free time.  

Wildman was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Rosa Dee Hughes, Anne Blakely and Vera Daugherty, three brothers, James Hughes, Ed Hughes and Albert Hughes.

Survivors are his wife of twenty-eight years, Janice Gills Hughes of Gurdon, one son, Nicholas Hughes (Brandy) of Gurdon, one daughter, Julie Burris (Tim) of Gurdon, two brothers, William Hughes of Palestine, Tx and Jimmy Hughes (Lisa) of Gurdon, two sisters, Shirley Williams of Gurdon and Fran Malcom Graves (Dwight Malcom) of Gurdon, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 28, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Gurdon with Steve Stephens and Donnie Deaton officiating.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday at the church.

Interment will be in Bethlehem Cemetery at Gurdon.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Gurdon or Bethlehem Cemetery Fund.
