FORDYCE, Arkansas — Top state investigators are probing an officer-involved shooting that took place on New Year’s Eve in Dallas County.
Dallas County Sheriff Mike Knoedl announced on Facebook that his deputies, along with officers of the Fordyce Police Department, were attempting to arrest a probation and parole absconder with an active felony warrant for failure to appear. The as-yet unidentified suspect was reportedly holding a firearm at the time officers fired on and shot him.
The suspect, 35, was at his home on Parkwood Lane when the incident happened, at about 10:38 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025. He was flown to UAMS in Little Rock, where he was listed in stable condition.
No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.
Knoedl said two deputies involved in the incident were placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
Special Agents with the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division will prepare and present a case file to the Dallas County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, which will determine whether the use of lethal force was consistent with Arkansas law.
The investigation is ongoing.
