It was a relatively short meeting for the Clark County Quorum Court Monday night, Dec. 9, but a lot of work was accomplished.

Justices passed the 2026 county budget with little comment. Chairman Justice BJ Johns thanked everyone for their assistance and noted that over the next year, he hopes to seek out more grant funding for various positions. He noted the budget contains three new slots — two sheriff’s deputies and a position in the public defenders’s office. At the motion of Johns and Justice Michael Ankton, the measure was approved.

Other ordinances approved Monday evening included:

• The county’s routine tax ordinance.

• An ordinance setting a new base pay for all employees and officials was passed at the motion of Justices Jenna Scott and Ankton.

• An ordinance establishing a grant fund account was passed at the motion of Scott and Justice Vanilla Hannah.

• An appropriation ordinance was passed at the motion of Johns and Scott.

• Another ordinance that specifies how vacant positions are to be publicized was placed on its third reading and will be passed at a future meeting.
