Henderson to celebrate grand reopening of Russell Fine Arts Center Nov. 8

Henderson State University will celebrate the grand reopening of the Russell Fine Arts Center (RFA) with a special concert Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025, at 10 a.m.

Faculty and students will present a short recital of works by Bach, Chopin, Lerner and Loewe, Horner, and others, with an informal reception following the performance. The program is free and open to the public.

RFA was one of three prominent buildings on the Henderson campus, including Smith Hall and Mooney Hall, recently renovated thanks to grants totalling $1.9 million from the Arkansas Natural and Cultural Resources Council (ANCRC). Additional funding was provided by Henderson Foundation.

Significant improvements were made to the Harwood Recital Hall, which serves as the music department’s primary performance venue, the Evanson Band Hall and choir room. Common areas received fresh paint, and new instrument storage lockers were installed.

“This event is a way of thanking the Henderson administration, SCM Architects, and the Henderson Foundation for the funds it contributed,” said Bill Higgins, chair of performing arts. “I also want to acknowledge all the support staff and workers, including SSC, who collaborated on this project.

“We look forward to showing off their diligent work this Saturday.”

Opened in 1964, the RFA is home to Henderson’s music department and digital media production’s podcast studio. It’s located at 604 North 12th St.
