David Wayne Kuhn, age 83, of Gurdon, Arkansas passed from this life on Friday, September 26, 2025. He was born on July 31, 1942 in Gurdon to the late Pearl (Branum) Kuhn and Grover K. Kuhn.
David was a 1960 graduate of GHS where he excelled in football, basketball, and track. His career began in 1962 with Missouri-Pacific Railroad as an apprentice in the diesel repair shop in North Little Rock. David later transitioned to road service with the Union Pacific railroad working as a locomotive engineer from 1970-2003 operating trains in Arkansas and Texas. David grew up attending First Baptist Church in Gurdon and, in 1975, Red Springs Baptist Church, now Grace Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon until his death. David’s hobbies included woodworking, fishing, and spending time at his cabin on the Ouachita River with his lifelong friend, Jimmy Don Foyil. David and Jimmy Don spent as much time on their cabin porch complaining about the fishing as they actually spent fishing. Despite this, they rarely failed to catch enough fish to feed either family or church. Camping was another passion of David and Carolyn. While traveling in their RV, 49 states, Canada, and Mexico plus parks, landmarks, and popular attractions were visited by the Kuhn family. Later, the RV door was kept swinging by the whirlwind of grandchildren who each got time with the grandparents camping around the nation.
Later in life, David and Carolyn traveled to many state parks in Arkansas with friends known as The Camping Club. Piles of firewood were burned while The Camping Club discussed the many pressing issues of the day such as whether duct tape would fix a fan belt or flatheads tasted better than striped bass. Overall, David lived his best life surrounded by family and friends.
David is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Pat Wells; his brothers-in-law, Harry Wells and Bob Craig; and his niece, Deborah Painter.
He is survived by wife, Carolyn Ursery Kuhn; three sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Lynn Kuhn of Haskell, Jon and Kelli Kuhn of Morrilton, and Brett and April Kuhn of Gurdon. Additionally, David had seven grandchildren, Wesley (Amber), Kelley (Jake), Drew (Sarah), Kyle (Baylee), Brannon, Braelyn (Tyler), and Ashlyn. Bonus grandchildren include Molly (Travis), Drake, Ashley (Kaleb), and Allen (Madi). Twelve great grandchildren are Ayden, Rylan, Emma, Cooper, Emily, Karter, and Peyton. Bonus great grandchildren are Eli, Trace, Everly, Kade, Joslin, and Hudson.
