The following incidents were gathered from reports filed at the Arkadelphia Police Department and Clark County Sheriff’s Office. Names of arrested individuals were collected at the Clark County Detention Center on Crittenden Street in Arkadelphia. They are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law. The Arkadelphian does not withhold names from the arrest log, so don’t even think about asking.

Monday, May 12
10:37 a.m.
A North 14th Street woman reported a known female had pulled a gun on her. En route to her residence, an officer pulled over the suspect near Pine and 11th streets. She admitted having words with the caller but denied pulling a gun; the caller, she added, was the one who had brandished a firearm. No gun was found at either location. Both parties were instructed to stay away from each other.

2:20 p.m.
An officer responded to Walmart for a complaint of a shoplifter who had concealed $86 worth of merchandise in her purse. Sonia Laneise Braxton, 57, of Arkadelphia, was cited for theft of property.
3:28 p.m.
A resident of Matt Stone Apartments, 1817 Millcreek Dr., reported a hit-and-run accident involving her parked SUV. The driver who fled left a note with a phone number, but attempts to call the driver went unanswered.
Tuesday, May 13
12:39 p.m.
Officers were called to Carriage Place, where a female reported her ex-boyfriend was breaking windows. The caller told police the ex had asked her for a dollar and wanted to see his child. Denied both requests, he became upset and broke out an exterior window. The caller was advised to phone police should the man return.
12:41 p.m.
A man reported leaving a backpack at Country Car Wash, 2502 Country Club Road. Realizing that he’d left it an hour later, he returned to collect it but it was gone. The backpack contained a MacBook laptop, as well as drumsticks and drumming accessories.

Wednesday, May 14
8:21 a.m.
A corrections officer with Ouachita River Correctional Unit in Malvern reported the theft of a plastic tote of clothing from the porch of a South 1st Street residence. Also taken were his stab vest, identification badge and a pair of shoes.
11:22 a.m.
Police were summoned to Southview Apartments, 650 S. 5th St., to aid in ridding a resident of an unwanted guest. Officers spoke to the guest, who relayed that she couldn’t leave because the caller had her car key. The caller ultimately gave the key for the woman to leave, and later added that she had assaulted him when she first arrived, shoving him into the living area. The female and a witness both denied that took place, and she left without further incident.
1:55 p.m.
A woman told police that someone had tampered with her elderly mother’s license plate registration sticker while the vehicle was parked at the 1600 block of Main Street. An officer observed the sticker to have little to no indication of the required registration information. She was advised a report would be on file so she could acquire a replacement sticker from the DMV.
2:55 p.m.
A school resource officer received information of an Arkadelphia Public Schools-issued Chromebook being bought at Arkadelphia Pawn & Gun, 201 Robey St. The Chromebook had been issued to a student who was last enrolled in the district in January 2024. A purchase receipt at the pawn shop revealed that a third party had sold it in March 2025. It was sold on May 13 to another person. Police contacted that customer, who handed over the property pending further investigation.
4:40 p.m.
Officers were requested at Walgreens for a report of fraud. An associate said two male suspects entered the store, with one asking for help to send a Western Union money transfer of $998. When payment was due the suspect advised he would be paying with rewards cash on his credit card. Unsure how to complete the transaction, the associate allowed the customer to walk her through the process, and repeated the process with another $990 transaction. The fraudster concluded his Walgreens experience with the purchase of two $250 gift cards, then left the business. When it dawned on the associate that the customer hadn’t actually bought anything, she alerted management, who called police. Management flagged both Western Union transactions so no one could pick up the payment, and was working to cancel the gift cards. Police were provided video surveillance of the attempted transaction.

3:15 p.m.
A Cypress Court man reported four unauthorized transactions totaling $93 had been made using his debit card information. He suspected a female house guest he’d invited over was responsible for the transactions, but he couldn’t remember her name.
4:05 p.m.
An officer was called to the parking lot at Brookshire’s for a report of a hit-and-run fender-bender. A witness gave police an account of a short, slender white female who backed into a vehicle, got out to inspect the paint damage and drove away. The witness also provided police with a license plate number of the suspect vehicle, which returned to a Bismarck couple.
7:45 p.m.
A woman turned in a wallet she had found on Hartford Street. An officer inspected the contents to find a Louisiana ID belonging to Kenneth Dwayne Douglas, two debit cards, three medical insurance cards and $3. Attempts to locate the owner were fruitless. The wallet was secured in a lost and found box in the police department.
Friday, May 16
1:33 a.m.
Patrolling North 10th Street near the sale barn, an officer located a pickup stopped in the southbound shoulder. The driver, Brett Barbaree, 23, of Benton, said he had a flat tire, and exhibited signs of possible intoxication. A portable breath test was administered showing twice the legal limit, and Barbaree was arrested for public intoxication.

3:37 p.m.
A South 14th Street woman reported going home to find her door open. Officers cleared the residence. The resident didn’t notice anything missing. The resident said it wasn’t the first time she found her door open upon returning home. She was advised of safety and security measures.
Saturday, May 17
7:30 p.m.
Officers were dispatched to a report of an assault involving weapons at Pine Court Apartments, 120 N. 20th St. A resident told an officer she had been allowing her sister to use her vehicle, but decided to take it back because she suspected her to be under the influence. A dispute and claimed assault arose when the sister, having partially paid for the vehicle’s battery, attempted to reclaim the vehicle. Police found no signs of injury to the complainant, and a witness didn’t see either party strike the other. Officers advised the caller that it was civil issue and therefore couldn’t make the sister give up the car battery.
Sunday, May 18
2:50 a.m.
Police were called to 236 N. 23rd St. for a report of a vehicle accident. The caller said several vehicles had been driving erratically up and down the street throughout the night. Another witness said they were awakened by the sound of the crash, and walked out to find a Kalan Tyler Jones, 21, sitting on the front porch, his vehicle parked in their driveway. Jones said he was attempting to drift and lost control of his Dodge Charger, which left the roadway and struck a pickup, propelling it forward 4 feet and causing it to collide with another car. Both vehicles sustained significant damage. Jones exhibited signs of intoxication, and failed a series of field sobriety tests. He was arrested for DWI, reckless driving, careless and prohibited driving and failure to maintain control.

9:21 p.m.
Police were dispatched to the 300 block of North 14th Street for a report of a subject armed with a knife and causing property damage. Upon arrival officers spoke with the caller, who said the female suspect had already left the residence. Inside, police observed a bookshelf that had been knocked over and several dresser drawers that had been emptied onto the floor. Police had apparently been called to the residence before in reference to evicting the female, but the caller had yet to secure the property so the suspect couldn’t enter. The caller appeared more upset that the female had poured out his beer and damaged his cigar than the damage to his home. He was again advised to contact the prosecutor’s office regarding a potential failure to vacate charge.

Tuesday, May 13
2:45 a.m.
Patrolling Highway 53 North near Bateman Road, deputies observed a sedan swerving left of the center line and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, Michael Dewayne Copeland, 39, of Camden, is an active parolee with a search waiver on file. A search of the vehicle and trunk yielded 206 ecstasy pills, 4.26 grams of crack cocaine, a .357 Ruger Blackhawk loaded with four rounds in the clip, and a scale. Copeland was arrested and transported to the county jail to be held on continued detention. Charges, added later, were possession of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm by a certain person.
Friday, May 16
1 p.m.
The theft of a 9mm Century Arms semi-automatic pistol was reported from an employee’s vehicle at Shields Wood Products, 97 Highway 51. The suspect, it was learned, had been given a ride to the mill to inquire about employment, then rummaged through the employee’s vehicle after leaving the office. Confronted about why he was in the vehicle, the suspect said he was getting a cigar, then left on foot. The employee was called to check for missing items, and discovered the firearm gone. The suspect had not been located at the time of the report, and the handgun was entered as stolen into a crime database.
Sunday, May 18
9:30 a.m.
A deputy was called to a domestic disturbance at the 4000 block of Highway 67 South. The female suspect, identified as Taylor Hughes, 30, had left after the altercation involving herself and two other females, one of whom she reportedly shoved one into a door, bruising her arm. Hughes would return about an hour and a half later, prompting a 911 call and her subsequent arrest for third-degree domestic battery.
