The following incidents were gathered from reports filed at the Arkadelphia Police Department and Clark County Sheriff’s Office. Names of arrested individuals were collected at the Clark County Detention Center on Crittenden Street in Arkadelphia. They are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law. The Arkadelphian does not withhold names from the arrest log, so don’t even think about asking.

Monday, April 21

Felony incident still under investigation: Theft between $1,000-$5,000, Walmart Supercenter

9:55 a.m.
Management at Burger King reported a large metal door on the fence to the Dumpster had been knocked off its hinges. They believed the trash truck had knocked the door off. There was no visible damage to the door or fence, and it appeared the door could be placed back on its hinges.

Tuesday, April 22
12:19 p.m.
Police worked a Walmart parking lot accident involving three vehicles. There was minimal damages to all involved cars.

1:01 p.m.
Police were summoned to Nightingale Nursing Home, 2701 Twin Rivers Dr., for a report of two male residents who had gotten into fisticuffs in the cafeteria. The two were separated, and the aggressor was placed under one-on-one supervision.

4:30 p.m.
Officers and a detective were requested at Arkadelphia Pawn & Gun, 201 Robey St., for a report of a stolen credit card being used. A local woman said she got notice that her card had been declined at the pawn shop. Police watched surveillance footage showing Gregory M. Carpenter, 48, and Sarah Carpenter, 47, both of Arkadelphia, attempted to purchase items with a declined card. The footage showed Gregory Carpenter exit the store as one officer was walking in. Officers canvassed the area in search of the Carpenters and found them at their Phillips Street residence. Both admitted to attempting to use a card that didn’t belong to them. Learning that Sarah Carpenter had tossed the card after the attempt, police were able to find it at the 1000 block of Haddock Street. The Carpenters were arrested for fraudulent use of a credit card.

7:25 p.m.
Hearing a complaint of shoplifting at Smoker Friendly, 2708 Pine St. C, police reviewed surveillance footage of a named suspect who, on three occasions between April 13-23, steal or try to steal cigarillos. Management wanted a theft report in order to ban the sticky-fingered customer.

Thursday, April 24
9:30 a.m.
Officers were called to the parking lot at Walmart, where a Central Arkansas Development Council driver reported leaving the store to find damage to the rear door and roof area of her assigned bus. The driver added that she was unsure when or how the damage got there, nor who was driving when it happened.

Saturday, April 26
2:28 a.m.
Officers assisted Henderson State University police with a car accident at Wilson and Miller streets, where the driver had struck a utility pole. The driver said she was texting her mom while driving and missed a parking lot entrance. While speaking with the driver, 19-year-old Grace Otwell, of TexARKana, an officer detected the odor of intoxicants and performed a portable breath test that showed a BAC level above the legal limit. Failing the administered field sobriety tests, Otwell was arrested for DWI-1st, possession of alcohol by a minor and use of a wireless phone for interactive communication while driving.

Sunday, April 27
12:45 a.m.
A Brookshire’s employee reported that, during the previous day’s shift, a customer threatened to cut his throat because he advised against buying an ordered cake that had an unlisted problem. The woman returned about five minutes after making the threats, this time with her father, who further threatened to cut the baker’s head off for disrespecting his daughter. A manager intervened, and the suspects left the store. The baker was advised of warrant procedures. An officer later looked up the phone number recorded on the cake order to identify the female suspect. No arrest had been made at the time of this writing.

Monday, April 21
11:31 p.m.
Deputies were called to a motel on Crystal Palace Drive, Caddo Valley, where a male had made several 911 hangup calls. Deputies located the caller, Michael James Morland, 56, of Houston, Texas, in the rear parking lot. Smelling of alcohol and admitting to dialing 911, Morland was arrested for public intoxication and calling in a false alarm.

Tuesday, April 22
6 p.m.
Deputies were dispatched to a residence on Turner Road, Amity, where a man had threatened suicide and fired his pistol out of eyeshot from the concerned caller. A lengthy search of the subject, who left the area in a vehicle, ultimately proved successful when his vehicle was spotted parked behind a Pine Street residence in Amity. The subject willingly allowed medical transport to Baptist Health Medical Center-Arkadelphia for assessment.

Sunday, April 27
11:14 p.m.
Making a traffic stop on a motorist who had swerved in the roadway and later failed to use a turn signal at South Fork Truck Stop, a deputy sniffed the odor of marijuana during his approach to the vehicle. The driver, Kenneth McClure, 54, of Curtis, was searched; a deputy found a small bag of marijuana. McClure was arrested for driving with a suspended license, no liability insurance, no seatbelt, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with defective equipment.
