Arkadelphia Arts Center hosting OBU Student Juried Exhibit

The Arkadelphia Arts Center will host Selected Works: 2024 OBU Student Juried Exhibit from Oct. 29 through Nov. 14, open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. A public reception will be held on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 5:30 p.m.

The annual Juried Art Exhibition, presented by the OBU Art Club, celebrates creativity and innovation, showcasing the diverse talents of the artists across Ouachita’s campus. Art Club is the creative hub for OBU. They hold events that decorate and lift up campus, promoting art across all majors. This year’s collection was curated by Kevin Cates, professor of art at University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

The public is invited to explore these dynamic works that span a variety of mediums, from painting and pottery to digital art and charcoal.

Students from all departments are invited to enter their work in this exhibit. The exhibition brings life and creativity to campus and inspires students to create. One of the artists, Isabel King, a graphic design major, created “A Study of Self” which embodies the dichotomy of the third culture kid experience. She wants her ink drawings to prompt viewers to reflect on their own connections to place and identity. Studio art major Emily Yokem created “Whimsical Fantasies,” a collage-like composition rendered entirely in white charcoal. By stripping away color, she reminds us that beauty and imagination can thrive even without vibrancy.

The many themes and inspirations behind each piece come together to create a patchwork of individuality that reflects each of the students behind the work. The Juried Show encourages its viewers and participants to pursue art and be creative.
