An Arkadelphia man was hospitalized after being struck by an oncoming vehicle late Wednesday on Pine Street.

It happened at the 1400 block of Pine Street, in front of Domino’s Pizza, at about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024. The pedestrian, later identified as 71-year-old Julius Ussery, of Arkadelphia, was transported from the scene in an ambulance and med-flighted to a Little Rock hospital from Arkadelphia High School.

Back at the scene, the Arkadelphia Police Department cordoned off a small section of Pine Street surrounding a light-colored passenger vehicle, its windshield shattered, according to witnesses. The sedan appeared to have been traveling east at the time of the accident.

The city’s main east/west thoroughfare was blocked off until about 10 p.m. as authorities investigated the scene. An Arkansas State Police trooper arrived, as did a pair of fire engines from the Arkadelphia Fire Department.

The vehicle was towed from the scene by Beene’s Towing and Recovery.

We’ll have more details as they become available.
