60-yard field goal lands GAC honor for Tigers kicker

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas — Ouachita Baptist University football player Dax Jaggers has been selected as the Great American Conference Special Teams Player of the Week after his record-breaking performance this past Saturday.

The junior from Bethany, Oklahoma accounted for 10 points in Ouachita’s 40-0 win over East Central on Saturday, including two field goals and four extra points.

Jaggers’ first field goal was from 49 yards out early in the second quarter to put Ouachita up 17-0. At the end of the half, he nailed a 60-yard field goal to put the Tigers up 20-0 at the break.

The 60-yard field goal is a new school record, breaking Gabe Goodman’s previous record of 55 yards against Northwestern Oklahoma State in 2022. It is also the second-longest field goal in the history of the Great American Conference.

In addition to his placekicking duties, Jaggers also had six kickoffs against ECU with three touchbacks and an average of 62 yards per kickoff.

Jaggers and the Tigers are back in action this Saturday, October 19 at home against Harding for the unofficial game of the week in NCAA Division II football. Harding is 6-0 and ranked No. 1 nationally. Ouachita is also 6-0 and ranked No. 9 this week.
