GLENWOOD, Arkansas — 9th West Judicial District Prosecutor Jana Bradford determined that the use of lethal force by a Pike County deputy sheriff was justified in a fatal officer-involved shooting that happened in late August 2024, Arkansas State Police announced in a press release on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
On Thursday, August 29, 2024, the PCSO responded to a location on Highway 84 West in Lodi, near the Pike County community of Glenwood, following reports of a woman with a knife. The woman, later identified as Jennifer Provence, 43, did not comply with a deputy’s commands to drop the knife.
ASP didn’t identify the deputy in its announcement, although days later officials in Pike County said David Walker, a school resource officer at Centerpoint, was the policeman who fired his service weapon. Provence died at the scene.
The Pike County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) asked the ASP Criminal Investigation Division (CID) to investigate the shooting.
ASP CID prepared an investigative file and submitted it to Bradford, who determined on Monday, Sept. 23, that the use of deadly force was consistent with Arkansas laws.
Walker has since returned to his duties at Centerpoint Public Schools, the Southern Standard reported last week.
