Shooting in Gurdon leaves woman hospitalized

A Gurdon, Arkansas, woman shot while driving home from work remains hospitalized in an area hospital. Clark County’s top law enforcement officials remained tight-lipped about the investigation on Monday afternoon. The shooting appears to have been a random act. Here’s what we know so far:

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at 12:04 a.m. Monday, March 26. Deputies were summoned to an area on Crayton Street in Gurdon when the female victim, whose name was not released at the time of this writing, dialed 911.

The victim is a 58-year-old white female. She was transported to a Hot Springs hospital, where on Monday afternoon she remained in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, according to Sheriff Jason Watson.

“She was driving home from work when she was struck,” the sheriff told arkadelphian.com. “She lived right down the street” from where the shooting occurred. Watson did not release where the victim was hit.

The victim, he said, has no relation to the suspect, identified as 36-year-old Kenneth Harper, also of Gurdon. Harper was arrested and taken to the Clark County Jail, where he remains detained on continued detention. His mugshot was not immediately available.

As of Monday afternoon police had yet to file any charges. The incident remains under investigation, Watson said.
