Brief thaw coming Wednesday; freezing rain possible Thursday

South Arkansas is expected to feel some respite from the arctic temperatures of late, as the mercury is forecast to rise above the freezing mark Wednesday before another chance of wintry precipitation.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, highs in Arkadelphia will top out Tuesday at 25˚F. Sunshine today will melt some of the snow and ice on area roadways; where melting occurs, patches of ice will likely reform on the pavement after dark. Tonight, expect a low temperature of 8˚F.

Wednesday’s high is expected to reach 39˚F before turning cold again that night, with lows hovering above 20˚F.

A slight chance of freezing rain is in the forecast Thursday morning for portions of eastern Arkansas. Along and north of Interstate 40, a sleet and snow mix could occur, with minimal accumulations in the forecast. Farther south, a light glaze of ice from freezing rain will be possible, and could result in some travel impacts.

The NWS is predicting a 20% chance of precipitation before 9 a.m. Thursday, followed by a slight chance of rain between 9 a.m. and noon as temperatures climb into the low 40s. Chilly temps will resume into the weekend, with highs hovering around the freezing mark.

There is a potential for some rain or freezing rain Monday, according to the NWS.
