BITS & PIECES: Welcome, TRM&P

By JOEL PHELPS | arkadelphian.com

This week we welcome aboard a new advertiser: Turner, Rodgers, Manning & Plyler PLLC. The Arkadelphia-based accounting firm has been in business since 1958. Located at 305 Professional Park Dr., TRM&P provide tax return services for both individuals and businesses, and also offers accounting and payroll services as well as audit services for many government and nonprofit organizations throughout the state. The firm added a location in Magnolia two years ago, and was voted Best Accounting Firm in 2023 by the readers of arkadelphian.com.

As we write this, we’re among 90 or so Entergy Arkansas customers affected by a power outage in Arkadelphia. We were putting the finishing touches on a news article when we heard a transformer explosion. (Update: while out taking a photo for the aforementioned article, we saw where a sizable pine tree had fallen across Friendship Drive, visible from its intersection with Country Club Road. Entergy crews were there and in our neighborhood.) That was an hour ago at the time of this writing. With the high winds experienced throughout The Natural State today, we wouldn’t be surprised if our neck of the woods is in the dark all day. Hopefully this isn’t foreshadowing of what we could experience next week, with TV news meteorologists predicting sub-freezing temperatures and a potential for wintry precipitation. We survived the ice storm of 2001 in an uninsulated cabin with no electricity and very little heat for several days, living off of Cocoa Pebbles and adrenaline. We can probably handle next week.

This week last year we reported that local authorities arrested 3 suspects in connection with a deadly shooting outside an Arkadelphia apartment complex. CLICK HERE to read that story.

The Barkadelphia Dog Park continues to attract Man’s Best Friend and their upright owners, and we’re glad to report this. The City of Arkadelphia has vowed to put finishing touches on the park, including parking to accommodate a few vehicles and paw-friendly improvements to the pedestrian bridge attached to the 15th Street bridge over Mill Creek. Remember, the park is designed to separate large dogs from small dogs, so be sure to keep your pet in its designated area.

Bishop Bob is a bumbling buffoon.

One of our readers emailed a complaint of folks parking in the bicycle lane on North 26th Street. If you’ve got a driveway, carport or garage, use it. The bicycle lane is definitely off limits to motorized vehicles, whether in motion or not. So is Feaster Trail!

“Half of the people can be part right all of the time. Some of the people can be all right part of the time. But all the people can’t be all right all the time. I think Abraham Lincoln said that. ‘I’ll let you be in my dreams if I can be in yours.’ I said that.” — Bob Dylan

The lights are still out. Bring on the Cocoa Pebbles.
