Hunters in South Arkansas reached the black bear harvest quota on the same weekend the season opened for Zone 4.
The 25-bear quota was reached by 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, in the state’s Gulf Coastal Plain. Bear season for the region, which includes 20 South Arkansas counties, opened Saturday morning.
The Arkansas Game & Fish Commission did not have a final tally on black bear harvests Monday morning.
The AGFC first allowed bear hunting in Zone 4 in 2022. The bear harvest quota was reached by the end of the second day of that season opener, also.
A county-by-county harvest report on bears is expected to be released in coming weeks, an AGFC spokesman said.
