Joy White

Mary Joy Breda Miller-White of Arkadelphia, Arkansas was called to her Heavenly Home Friday, December 1st, 2023, at St Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock, Arkansas at the age of 90. Joy  transitioned peacefully surrounded by family.  Joy was born November 10th, 1933, in Natchitoches,  Louisiana to the late Joseph Theophile and Marzelie Tauzin Breda; the fifth of eight children. She as a 1951 graduate of St Mary’s Catholic High School in Natchitoches. After graduation, Joy married Dalton Ray Miller Sr. on June 17th, 1951, at Imaculate Conception Catholic Church in Natchitoches.  In June of 1956 Joy, Dalton and family moved to Arkadelphia to take management of Quality Shoe Store, which they purchased a few years later. Joy was a successful businesswoman, owner and operator of Quality Shoe Store from June of 1956 until the tornado of March 1st, 1997. She loved her customers, the retail business and she loved shoes!

In November 1971 Joy married Jimmy L White, Sr. they enjoyed going dancing, camping and fishing at Lake DeGray. Joy’s hobbies were playing cards, dominos and board games. She was an expert  Bridge player, hard to beat, and eager to win your pennies!

Joy was welcomed to her Heavenly Home by her parents, her brothers, Joseph T Breda, Jr, Edward Emile Breda, Clyde Breda and Harry Breda, Sr; sister, Marie Breda West; and grandson Thomas  Edmund McDonald.

Left with many years of memories Joy is survived by her beloved sister Doris Breda Carter of Bossier City LA, brother Edgar Breda(Ann) of Lees Summit MO, sisters-in-law Irma Breda of Spring TX and  Anne Breda of Humble TX; daughter Rose Mary Miller-Fason (Jerry) of Sardis AR, Joseph T Miller of  Collierville TN, Ray Miller (Jessie) of Lowell AR, John Miller (Amy) of Arkadelphia, and step-son  Jimmy Lewis White Jr. of Texarkana; grandchildren Shane McDonald Tucker (James), Joshua Miller (Jessica), Meredith Miller, Clayton Miller, Thomas Miller and Kerry Miller; great grandchildren Nick,  Victoria, Anniston, Alana, Matthew, Riley, Jonah, Isaac, Kennedy, Joy and Emory, one great-great  grandchild Charleigh, numerous nieces and nephews and trusted friend and nannie to Joy’s four  children, Betty Helms of Arkadelphia.

Honorary pallbearers are Levi Garland, Ken Sparks, Steve Toler, James Tucker, Tommy Hughes, John Hughes, Jerry Hughes, Ken Breda, Jerry Little, Steve Nat and Tom Glass.

Services are scheduled for Monday, December 11th , 2023, at 11:00 AM at Welch Funeral Home in Arkadelphia. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Joy’s name to St Mary’s Catholic Church, 251 N 14th Street, Arkadelphia AR 71923.
