Those who frequently use Arkadelphia’s Feaster Trail have likely noticed something different. Along the 2.5-mile paved multi-use path are signs marking mileage along the trail. There are also signs encouraging residents to stay active and healthy.
At the Baptist Health Medical Center trailhead is a large sign detailing a map of Feaster Trail. That sign was unveiled at a ceremony Tuesday, Nov. 1, with a gathering of representatives from BHMC, the City of Arkadelphia, Arkadelphia Parks and Recreation, Arkadelphia Regional Economic Development Alliance, Henderson State University and several other community members.
The sign placements were a Clark County Leadership VII project dating to 2018, a project that had its setbacks along the way with the Covid-19 pandemic.
Walkers, joggers, bicyclists and others who traverse Feaster will now be able to measure how far they’ve gone, as there are markers located every half mile of the trail, beginning with the starting point at the hospital and ending at the Ouachita River overlook. There, a second sign shows the map legend and its trailheads.
In a related move, Arkadelphia City Manager Gary Brinkley noted a rehabilitation project between the hospital and 26th Street is nearing completion. The project included the removal of the asphalt trail for the addition of a concrete walkway.
