The prisoner who escaped the Clark County Detention Center is set to spend the next several years in a state penitentiary after pleading guilty Thursday to multiple felonies, 9E Prosecuting Attorney Dan Turner announced.
Sean Anthony Bright, 31, of Arkadelphia, entered guilty pleas in two separate incidents, including the case for which he was incarcerated when he walked away from the jail on Easter Sunday.
Bright appeared with his attorney, Winston C. Mathis, before Circuit Judge Blake Batson.
For the 2025 fleeing case, Bright was sentenced to a total of 11 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections. The sentence includes 60 months in prison plus an additional 60 months suspended imposition of sentence for Fleeing, 72 months in prison for 1st-degree Criminal Mischief, and 60 months in prison plus an additional 84 months suspended imposition of sentence for Aggravated Assault. The sentence imposed included that the offenses of Fleeing and Aggravated Assault be served consecutively. Bright was also ordered to pay a total of $1,479 in restitution to Clark County and the victim whose property was damaged in the pursuit.
For the 2026 escape case, Bright was sentenced to a total of 32 years in prison. The sentence in that case includes 48 months in prison for 2nd-degree Escape, 36 months for Breaking or Entering, 60 months in prison plus an additional 120 months suspended imposition of sentence for Possession of Firearms by a Certain Person, 36 months for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, 60 months for Possession of a Controlled Substance-Methamphetamine, 144 months for Tampering with Evidence, and 60 months for Commercial Burglary. The sentence imposed in that case included that the Commercial Burglary offense be served concurrently with the other offenses and with all other offenses to be served consecutively. Bright was also ordered to pay $11,262.41 for damages and costs related to his search following the escape. The sentence included the possibility of additional judgments of restitution for expenses related to the search to be payable to the Arkansas State Police and Arkadelphia Police Department.
Turner applauded the efforts of local and state law enforcement officers involved in the search for Bright, saying, “I am truly grateful for the efforts of the many men and women of the various law enforcement agencies of our community and state that helped us apprehend and successfully prosecute this offender. These agencies worked tirelessly and around the clock to bring Sean Bright to justice.”
Turner noted that in addition to the Clark County Sheriff’s Department assisting agencies included APD, the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission, ASP, Arkansas Division of Community Corrections, the Arkansas National Guard, the Sheridan Police Department and the Arkadelphia Fire Department. The search included the use of law enforcement canines and helicopter units with ASP’s Air Support Unit and the Arkansas National Guard.
Sheriff Jason Watson added, “I would like to thank everyone involved in the search and recovery of Bright. This event started on Easter Sunday and the immediate response from assisting agencies is an example of the working relationships that we are fortunate to have.”
