The Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) reminds Arkansans Tax Free Weekend will begin at 12:01 a.m. August 1 and continue through 11:59 p.m. August 2.
Shoppers will not pay the state’s 6.5% sales tax on all qualified items. Local sales tax will also not apply. In addition to on-site purchases, online purchases qualify if the item is shipped to Arkansas. The item may arrive anytime, but the online transaction must take place August 1-2.
“This holiday provides a great opportunity to save money on back-to-school shopping,” said DFA Secretary Jim Hudson. “However, we want to be sure Arkansans are aware of the broader savings available. For example, a business planning on upgrading its laptops or tablets can find significant savings this weekend. Overall, this is an opportunity for Arkansans to save money on clothing, electronics, school and office supplies, and much more.”

DFA also reminds Arkansans that a wide range of services can be handled online through the DFA website. It’s a convenient way for busy parents and professionals to complete their to-do list before the start of the school year. Tasks that can be completed online through DFA include:
- Renewing vehicle tags
- Making a Revenue Office appointment (eliminating waiting)
- Paying property taxes
- Updating an address after a move
- Ordering a replacement driver’s license
- Checking the status of a title
- Calculating sales tax due on a vehicle purchase
- Ordering a personalized license plate
