Arkansas is under an Enhanced Risk (3/5) for severe weather Tuesday, April 28. The favored severe weather will be hail and damaging winds, though a few tornadoes cannot be ruled out this afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service in Little Rock.
Central to western Arkansas could see up to a 30% higher chance of hail and winds, with hail sizes exceeding 2 inches and wind gusts of 75-85 mph. Tornadoes that produce could be up to EF2 in size.
Showers and storms are expected to develop in the late morning and early afternoon hours across western Arkansas prior to progressing eastward across the state throughout the afternoon and into the evening hours, the weather service said. Strong to severe storms will favor the afternoon and evening hours, with some severe storms possibly lingering into the overnight hours tonight.
Arkadelphia’s Tuesday forecast says the best chances for thunderstorms happens after 3 p.m. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts could be between 3/4 to 1 inch. Otherwise, mostly cloudy skies with a high near 78 and a calm south wind around 5 mph with gusts as high as 15 mph.
Tonight, showers and thunderstorms are likely, mainly before 3 a.m. Wednesday. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. New rainfall amounts between 1/2 to 3/4 inch are possible. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Otherwise, cloudy to partly cloudy skies with a low around 58 and a west wind around 5 mph.
