Columbia County Sheriff Leroy Martin issued a statement on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, concerning a video clip that has appeared on social media in the past week.
The brief video purports to show a jail staff member using pepper spray against a seated prisoner without provocation.
magnoliareporter.com asked Sheriff Martin last Thursday to comment on the video and its contents. He said at the time that a press release would be forthcoming.
“The clip you may have seen online is an edited and incomplete version of what actually happened. I want to set the record straight about what happened,” Martin said in his statement.
