A large wildfire Saturday in the Manchester community southeast of Arkadelphia prompted county Judge Troy Tucker to issue a burn ban for Clark County.
Until further notice it is illegal to burn outdoors.
Saturday’s wildfire started just before 2 p.m. in the area of Church Drive and White Road, just north of Manchester Road. According to Tate Chanler, director of the county’s Office of Emergency Management, one home was damaged and one outbuilding was destroyed as a result of the brush fire that spread beyond the control of the person who ignited it.
Volunteer and full-time firefighters from about a dozen agencies—from as far away as Glen Rose (Hot Spring County) and Ouachita (south of Sparkman)—responded to the fire, Chanler said. Arkansas Forestry Commission was also dispatched to aid in battling the blaze.
Firefighters worked throughout the afternoon to douse the flames.
Chanler said Saturday’s blaze started as one small fire that got out of control. It wasn’t known how many acres burned; Chanler said state forestry officials would return to the area Monday to plot the acreage.
