GURDON, Arkansas — The Economic Development Corp. of Clark County (EDCCC) green-lighted a proposal to buy 9 acres adjoining an existing EDCCC-owned property jobs officials are calling the Gurdon Industrial Site.

The EDCCC in 2024 purchased 60 acres of undeveloped land south of Georgia-Pacific with the idea that the property would house an transloading dock connected to the nearby Union Pacific rail line.

In a meeting held Feb. 3 the EDCCC gave its president and CEO, Shelley Short, approval to begin negotiations with the properties’ agents. Short returned to the board in a virtual meeting Feb. 9 to provide dollar figures.

The first property, owned by Sherman and Rhonda Whittle at 1595 N. Elm St., includes 6 acres containing a 2,400-SF shop built in 2021. Given that it’s sandwiched between the existing industrial site and U.S. Highway 67, Short said the property provides frontage and access to the federal thoroughfare.

The second property, owned by Lisabeth Loveless, adds 3 acres of timber south of and adjacent to the Gurdon Industrial Site.

The total dollar figure for both properties is $220,000, plus an estimated $9,000 in fees and costs, including environmental site assessment expenses.

Board members asked some questions about the fees associated with the sale. In separate motions, board members approved the transactions.

Short noted that she would take the board’s decision back to the sellers, who have the option to accept the offer.
