Rain, light snow, more cold in Arkadelphia forecast

With ice still covering the ground from Winter Storm Fern, the coming days could bring rain, light snow and more extremely cold temperatures.

The National Weather Service in Little Rock said that a passing upper level disturbance will move across the state Thursday evening into Friday morning, bringing a slight chance of mixed precipitation to northern Arkansas and light rain for central Arkansas.

The Arkadelphia area’s forecast calls for a 20% chance of rain Thursday between 8-11 p.m. with a low around 27.

Friday night brings a 10% chance of light snow after midnight, with a low around 12 and wind chills as low as 4. Breezy, with winds gusting as high as 15 mph.

A Cold Weather Advisory will be in effect Friday night into Saturday morning.

Thursday’s high will top out around 48—the warmest high temperature until Monday, which promises a daytime high of 50.

Nightly lows will continue to fall below the freezing mark through at least Tuesday night. Friday and Saturday nights will be the coldest, with lows hovering just above 10.

Black ice remains a threat on highways

After days of melting sleet and snow, the potential for black ice due to refreezing of water and slush on roadways will be possible over the next several days.

Black ice can form on any road, but also along curbs and drainage areas due to melting snow.

It’s more prevalent at night, but can still be around in the morning. Use caution driving during freezing temperatures after rain or snowmelt.
