The Hope Fire Department announced Thursday, April 24, 2025 the unexpected passing of one of its firefighters, Tristan Johnson.
The 28-year-old died while on duty in an incident that was not related to a specific call for service. City officials in Hope have not disclosed Johnson’s cause of death.
A death notice posted by Welch Funeral Home notes that Johnson was from Arkadelphia.
City officials in Hope have made public their condolences. Johnson “was a valued member of our department and served the Hope community with professionalism, dedication, and heart,” Hope Fire Chief Todd Martin said. “[His] commitment to service and camaraderie was felt by everyone who had the privilege of working alongside [him].”
Johnson’s death prompted a candlelight vigil Thursday evening outside a Hope fire station, where fellow first responders and community members gathered to pay tribute. Pictures of Johnson were displayed alongside two wreaths and his fireman turnout gear, SWARK Today reported. In Hope, flags were flying at half-staff in Johnson’s honor.
Funeral arrangements were still pending Friday morning. Welch Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
