Downpours, flooding in Arkadelphia forecast through rest of week

Several rounds of rainfall are expected through Saturday night, April 5, 2025, according to the National Weather Service in Little Rock.

Rainfall amounts may exceed 8 inches in some places, with the heaviest rain from west central Arkansas into northeastern sections of the state.

The Arkadelphia area stands a high probability of total rainfall accumulations exceeding more than 4-6 inches. The area can expect at least 5.62 inches of rain, but could receive up to 12.96 inches, the weather service warned.

A Flood Warning was issued Tuesday evening for Clark County and most of the state. The Ouachita River at Arkadelphia is expected to rise above the flood stage of 17 feet, cresting early Saturday morning to 20 feet.

River forecasts are based on current conditions and rainfall forecasted to occur over the next 60 hours. Up-to-date river forecasts are available at http://www.weather.gov/lzk; under the Current Conditions section, select Rivers and Lakes AHPS.

There is a chance over the next 10 days that the Ouachita River at both Arkadelphia and Camden will rise above the moderate flood stage of 24 feet and 36 feet, respectively; that model could change depending on the amount of rainfall.

The NWS is warning of a “particularly dangerous situation” given the amount of extremely heavy rainfall that is expected.
