Submitted information
Auditions will be held at 7 p.m. both Monday, Sept. 11 and Tuesday, Sept. 12 in HSU’s Studio Theatre, in Arkansas Hall on the Henderson State University campus.
Interested participants may come either or both nights. Audition materials will be provided. Casting is flexible, with several small roles — seven women, six men and eight extras. Actors of ages 15 to 99 are encouraged to audition.
ALT, a local nonprofit, will stage the production Oct. 27 and Oct. 29-30 in Henderson’s Studio Theatre. Claudia Beach, a retired HSU theatre professor and former director of HSU’s Theatre and Dance program, will direct the play and oversee auditions.
Described as a modern comedic melodrama, Delia Dancer, Doughnut Girl captures the challenges and struggles of a young woman making a living cooking doughnuts and other pastries in a small-town doughnut factory. The play is structured as a radio program, complete with phony commercials, parody songs, audience participation and listener call-ins.
Beach will also be available during auditions to talk to anyone who wants to volunteer for behind-the-scenes technical theatre work.
